Fusible plugs are a key safety device on fluid couplings. If a coupling overheats, for example because the driven machine is overloaded or jammed, the alloy core of the plug melts and releases the operating fluid. Drive is lost and the motor, coupling and driven equipment are protected.

One Plug for the Fluidrive, Vulcan Sinclair & Pembril Range

A single fusible plug design fits the Fluidrive, Vulcan Sinclair and Pembril range, which keeps stocking simple. On Fluidrive FCU couplings a fusible plug is fitted on all but the smallest sizes.

The correct plug depends on where the coupling is used, with different plugs for surface and underground applications. Tell us the coupling make, size and application, and we will supply the right plug.

When to Replace a Fusible Plug

After the plug has operated and released the fluid
If a plug is damaged, corroded or leaking
Check plugs are present and of the correct type during routine maintenance and whenever the coupling is refilled

If a plug has operated, find and correct the cause of the overheating before refilling and restarting the coupling.

Never replace a fusible plug with a solid plug or bolt

Doing so removes the coupling's overload protection. Always fit a fusible plug of the correct type for the application.
